During the summer there is very heavy pleasure boat and sailboat traffic on the weekends, which can play havoc with the fishermen and turn the normally cloudy lake into a muddy lake in places. Geist is surrounded by homes which has taken away a great deal of the natural bank. It is a reasonably shallow lake and above the second bridge(at the Oleo Road Ramp) it is very shallow with channel markers. From April thru October, all motorized boats must use the new ramp on Oleo Road. This is a 3 lane concrete ramp with adequate parking, although weekends in the summer can cause parking problems and launching delays by 9:00 or 10:00am. From October to April, all boats must use the old Geist Marina ramp. This is also a 3 lane concrete ramp. Parking here is a problem at times due to the limited spaces and congestion from shops and restaurants located at the Marina. NOTE: Mondays-Fridays there is a $10.00 launch fee. On Weekends from Memorial Day thru Labor Day, the launch fee is $25.00. There is a special weekend fee if you are off the water by 10:00a.m. If you show your receipt and it is before 10:00am, they will refund $15.00 of your launch fee. Tournaments can sometimes get a break on the launch fee if arrangements are made beforehand with the manager. MARINAS: There is one marina with fuel at the Geist Marina Ramp. CAMPING: Not available. There is no food avialable except for restaurants at the Geist Marina. On 96th street however, there are abundant places to purchase food and gas.
